AWARENESS
Festivals and cultural events provide spaces of ecstasy and exuberance. They are meant to create balance and allow us to let go. They serve as important cultural, social, and networking spaces – especially for people who face oppression and discrimination in their daily lives.
At Bucht der Träumer*, we want to counteract this oppression and discrimination by committing ourselves to the protection of those affected by (sexualized) violence and other forms of discrimination.
We position ourselves within the framework of intersectional feminism and stand firmly against sexism, racism, ableism, queerphobia, and all other forms of discrimination. In doing so, we also critically reflect on our own organizational and power structures.
In the past, we have not always been able to protect all participants and crew members sufficiently. That makes it all the more important for us now to live up to this responsibility.
That is why we have entrusted our awareness structures for several years to our cooperation partner reflect.awareness e.V. . Together with this nonprofit association for social justice, we develop new prevention strategies each year and adapt our awareness concept to current realities.
Our collaboration goes far beyond the time of the festival and is part of a year-round, holistic support system.
On-site at Bucht der Träumer*, this means: the reflect.awareness e.V. team has the final say when it comes to dealing with individuals who behave in discriminatory or violent ways – even if these individuals are part of the organizing team. With this approach, we hope to break down power structures that need critical scrutiny.
The reflect.awareness e.V. team will be present at the festival with a large and experienced crew. They see themselves as your friends, listeners, and supporters. They are there for you if you need help or someone to talk to. You’ll recognize them by their pink vests with the label “reflect.awareness.” Their fixed awareness station is located at the marked “Safer Space” – right next to the Cashless Point.
